It is good that we all have come together in the Name of the Lord, with great desire to build the House of the Lord at our workplaces. We are saved and have been blessed by God with a good job, family and lifestyle. But, where do we head from here and what is our real destiny is our question for this day.
I would like to highlight on the parable of talents. As it says in Mathew 25:18, 'But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money..'. Here we see a person who is putting the talent under the ground to keep it safe and return back when the Master comes.
I wouldn't say his intention was wrong because, he was more bothered about returning back the talent without fail. The Master had entrusted his property to this servant who feared Him and held high respects for Him. But, to our surprise when the master returned back, he started settling accounts with each one of them who has been entrusted with a sum of talents. 'Master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them' Mathew 25:19.
To those who multiplied the talents the Lord said, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' Mathew 25:21.
While to him who laid down the talent buried the Lord replied: 'you wicked, lazy servant!' Mathew 25:26. This guy seems to have understood the Master better and says 'I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed.' Mathew 25:24. Well, his knowledge about the Lord is good, but is it his own understanding or the word from the Lord. If it is the word from the Lord, then the Lord wouldn't call him as a lazy servant.
Please attend to the words for the people who made use of the talents. Jesus calls them as good and faithful servants.
- First and foremost, they hated evil and selected the Good, doing only the good. If you do the good you will be saved, otherwise the accuser is waiting there at your doorsteps. Hence they were called as good people. 'Good' means pleasing the Lord and choosing to please the Lord at all times.
- Secondly, they were called as faithful. Faith is nothing but your love demonstrated in action and only by this you please your loved ones. Even God is pleased by your faith, when your deliberate works demonstrated for the love of Christ. Always your actions will express the amount of love which you have for your loved, that is why God says that whatever is not through faith is a sin and by faith one pleases the Lord.
- Third, they are called as servants. Yes you should have the right heart to serve and that is born out from pure love. They serve one another in love.
Well then what is evil? Whatever which is produced in our heart without caring to please the Lord becomes evil. Watch the reply of this servant, 'So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.' Mathew 25:25. Love knows no fear. For His love you lay down your life. No fears and No stepping back, there is only forward marching.
'Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.' Mathew 25:27, said the Lord. Who is a banker? A banker is an intermediate party between two kinds of people, one who saves money and one who uses money. God wants you to put that talent in a place where it can be used. You can call your friends to make use of the opportunity in spreading the Gospel or support a friend who is already involved in a ministry. That is banking on others, but yet you are involved in it indirectly. The Seed, the Word of God, can never be buried inside the soil rather it lives in everybody’s heart as witnesses and gives its returns further.
So, what is this Talent? Remember the testimony the lazy servant gave about his master. He described his master to be a one who harvests where he has not sown and gathers where he has not scattered seed. For all these days talent has been deciphered as a gift. But try calling it as an Opportunity, and then we understand the depth of the talents parable.
Life is filled with so many opportunities and options. How have we used those will reveal who we are to this world. A talent multiplies; likewise the gospel shared at the right time, in the given opportunity also multiplies. If you save one by the name of Christ, then the other who is saved also tries to save one by the name of Christ and it multiplies. But for the one who tries to safeguard his salvation all through his life is not going to be a part of the great harvest. You are saved so that you will lie down yourself and save a million for the love of Christ.
'For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.' Mathew 25:29
The Lord is not interested in a person who has the riches and doesn’t know what to do with it. Let it be time, money, health, etc. We can actually witness this in the world as well. A father would give his belongings to a son who is more faithful and sincere in utilizing it to the best possible way. Likewise a kingdom will also be taken away from an unwise king and given to a righteous king. God is looking out for serious and responsible people who will shed light for the heavenly path. To him shall he appoint the duty of building His Kingdom. If we think it lies with us, then with the heart of repentance lets start declaring to everyone to 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near' Mathew 3:2.
